Collared Kingfisher caught a sunbird…

Philip Toh documented a Collared Kingfisher (Todiramphus chloris) catching a sunbird, killed and de-feathered it before feeding it to its chick.

Collared Kingfisher’s diet includes a wide variety of animal like caterpillars, grasshoppers, earthworms and lizards LINK; cockroaches LINK; cicadas LINK; frogs LINK, pufferfish LINK; crabs LINK; and skinks LINK.

Nesting chicks are fed mainly with animal foods as the growing chicks need plenty of protein LINK.
